TDF Offers $9 eTix to Off-Off-Broadway to TDF Members

NEW YORK—Theatre Development Fund has launched a new on-line service, “off-OFF @ $9,” designed to make it easier for TDF members to attend Off-Off Broadway shows.  “off-OFF @ $9” provides TDF members with instant access to Off-Off Broadway tickets for $9, with no handling fee.

 

Ten ACN-Related Documents In Public Review

NEW YORK – Ten documents that are part of BSR E1.30-200x, Application level equipment interoperability for control of commonly encountered entertainment technology devices using ANSI E1.17, have been posted on the ESTA Web site for review through Aug 25. The 10 new draft documents add to the functionality of ANSI E1.17, ACN, by specifying how to do common tasks in ACN. The 10 draft documents are:

The Tennessee State University Theatre in Nashville  recently upgraded their lighting rig with eight Elektralite my575s and ten Pancake RGBW LED units. The my575's are providing front and back light specials while the Pancake fixtures are providing backlight and full-stage washes. The first show the new lights were used on was a recent production of The Fantasticks.

Texas Theatre Relives Golden Age of Vaudeville with Electro-Voice

MIDLAND, Texas – Built in 1929 and designated a Texas State Historical Landmark, the Yucca Theatre in Midland, Texas, is home to the Midland Community Theatre and its “Summer Mummers,” a locally-produced and written show that harks back to the golden age of Vaudeville. The Yucca’s new Electro-Voice XLCi 127DVX sound system is ensuring this unique production sounds better than ever for its 60th anniversary in 2008. The EV system was designed by FitzCo Sound, Inc. (Midland, Texas) and installed by Midland Community Theatre personnel (supervised by Technical Director/Sound & Lighting Designer Eddie Taylor).

The Actors Company Theatre has named Jenn Thompson, a company member and associate producer at the theatre, as the third member of their artistic director trio. A space in the trio had opened after Simon Jones stepped down from that role. Jones will remain with the company.

The Cleveland Play House Signs Purchase Agreement with the Cleveland Clinic

CLEVELANDThe Cleveland Play House has sold its complex at 8500 Euclid Avenue, to the Cleveland Clinic.  The Board of Directors overwhelmingly approved the sale of the 300,000 square foot building and approximately twelve acres of land at its Annual Meeting in mid July.  The Play House and Cleveland Clinic have entered into the due diligence phase of the agreement, which should last approximately 60 days and will result in the sale of the facility, as well as a two-year leaseback agreement to The Play House.  The leaseback will allow The Play House to continue to utilize the space at its current location until May 2011 for its full range of programming.

CHICAGO — An adaptation of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple Broadway musical has taken to the road and is currently playing an extended engagement in Chicago. Sound designer Jon Weston chose Drawmer for the tour.

The Lost Colony Adds Mystery with Look Solutions

WAYNESBORO, PA — The Lost Colony, the annual symphonic outdoor drama celebrating its 70th anniversary in performance at the Waterside Theater on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, is using a pair of Look Solutions Viper DMX-fog generators to add atmosphere to the already mysterious story.

The Irish don’t need much help sounding better (their accent is pretty aces), but they do need to get reinforced same as everyone else. To that end the Market Place Theatre & Arts Centre in Armagh, Northern Ireland, installed one of the world’s first Allen & Heath GLD-80 digital mixer as well as an an AR84 I/O rack in the control room, and an AR2412 rack down on the stage floor. The gear was part of a larger upgrade of the theatre’s infrastructure.
