by Stage Directions

Theater planning & design firm, TheatreDNA recently released a free theater and entertainment reference app, now available on the App Store and Google Play. The app’s purpose is to streamline communication between architects, administrators, artists, contractors, and students in the entertainment world. With photos alongside each glossary definition, the app helps users decipher common terms and abbreviations used in many performance-based specialized disciplines, like the theater, film, television, concert, and live event industries.

“We know that good communication is the key to success, and a common vocabulary is the beginning,” said Michael Ferguson, co-founder of TheatreDNA. “Whether you work in or around a performing arts building, the terms detailed in this app will help you take your communication to the next level.”

The app’s key components include a glossary created by theater experts, a curated supplier index for theatrical equipment, and the option for users to ‘favorite’ their most frequently searched terms for easy access.

One of the sections includes safety and security terms defined by the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) and Homeland Security and made exclusively available to the TheatreDNA app.

“At TheatreDNA, our work is focused on supporting and enhancing the experience of anyone involved with the performing arts spaces we help design,” said Benton Delinger, co-founder of TheatreDNA. “Our glossary terms app is just an extension of that—us helping you navigate the unique worlds of theater, architecture, and construction.”

The TheatreDNA app is free and compatible for both Android and iOS devices. It is regularly updated with more terms and photos, and users can submit feedback to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
