BUENA PARK, CA-Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems will hold a NEXO Loudspeaker Demo at the Paramount Arts Centre Theatre in Aurora, Illinois on Friday, September 10 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. The event is free of charge and open to all audio professionals. The demo will showcase both NEXO and Yamaha Commercial Audio products including NEXO GEO-S12 Loudspeaker Array System, NEXO RS15 Dual-15" Subwoofer, NEXO RS18 Dual-18" Subwoofer, NXAMP 4X4 Controller Amplifier, and NEXO PS15R2 Loudspeakers.

San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre is giving away 7,500 tickets to high school students in its 75th season.
SAN DIEGO—Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto announced that 7,500 tickets will be made available free-of-charge to High School Students as part of the Old Globe’s ongoing 75th anniversary celebration.  A new venture in its ongoing effort to connect young people with theatre, complimentary tickets will be offered to all nine of the Globe’s 2010-11 Winter Season productions.  Students must register online at www.TheOldGlobe.org/7500 to be eligible for the program.

ELGIN, IL-The Han-Yellock line is a new industrial connector series from Harting which incorporates a number of features designed to make it ideal for use in stage automation, concert lighting and power distribution systems. In addition to offering an IP67 rated degree of protection, the connector features an integrated "seat-belt" style latched locking mechanism that ensures damage limitation under harsh handling conditions. The new connector also allows single-handed mating or unmating, making it ideal for fitting in awkward access areas-often the case for theatre installations.

NEA Awards $100k in New Play Development Grants Print E-mail

WASHINGTON, DC—The 2010 cohort for the NEA New Play Development Program has been named. Five theatres will each receive a grant of $20,000 to support the early stages of development for a new play with strong potential to merit a full production. The theatres are: About Face Theatre (Chicago, IL), for Tanya Saracho’s The Albert Cashier Project; Children’s Theatre Company (Minneapolis, MN) for Larissa FastHorse’s Fancy Dancer; Cornerstone Theater Company (Los Angeles, CA) for Tom Jacobson’s West Hollywood Musical; McCarter Theatre Center (Princeton, NJ) for Emily Mann’s Hoodwinked; Woolly Mammoth Theater Company (Washington, DC) for Danai Gurira’s Zimbabwe Project. Working in close collaboration with the playwrights, each theatre will use this funding for development activities, such as dramaturgy, design workshops and consultations, read-throughs, public readings, workshop productions, and open rehearsals. NEW YORK-The sixth-annual Stage Lighting Super Saturday all-day seminar will take place at 8:00 am on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City near Lincoln Center on Amsterdam Avenue and West 65th Street. Once again, this popular annual seminar is designed for everyone involved in stage, architectural, or entertainment lighting. The sessions are not too basic nor too advanced. The intense all day seminar will be led by theatre lighting professionals leading sessions about inspiration, training, product, and just doing it.

Nominees for Jeff Equity Awards Announced Print E-mail

CHICAGO-The Jeff Awards has announced 162 nominations in 31 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions which opened between August 1, 2009, and July 31, 2010. The 42nd Annual Jeff Awards ceremony honoring excellence in professional theatre produced within the immediate Chicago area will be held on Monday, October 25, at Drury Lane Oakbrook. Musical numbers featuring cast members from nominated musicals and video segments from nominated plays will be included in the Jeff Awards ceremony, emceed by luminary actors Deanna Dunagan and Felicia P. Fields. The evening is black tie optional and the public is cordially invited to attend. Full list of nominees is after the jump.

NEW YORK, NY-Mari Marchbanks (Founder and Executive Director of the Horton Foote Prize) named the inaugural recipients of the newly established Horton Foote Prizes, named in honor of the legendary writer, to award excellence in American theatre. Presented biennially, the first Horton Foote Prize was awarded to Ruined by Lynn Nottage for Outstanding New American Play and Middletown by Will Eno for Promising New American Play.
