NEW YORK—BSR E1.32 - 201x, Guide for the Inspection of Entertainment Industry Luminaires, is available for public review here through 25 October 2010. The document is intended to provide guidance in the inspection of stage and studio luminaires used in the entertainment industry to evaluate their safety and any needed maintenance. An employer could write his own safety inspection procedures from scratch as part of his duty to provide a safe workplace, but borrowing from or adopting the final version of this document might be easier and lead to a better set of procedures.

CINCINNATI-Edward Stern, producing artistic director of the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park since 1992, has announced that he will leave the Playhouse at the end of the 2011-2012 season, which will also be his 20th season."I am making this announcement now so that the Playhouse Board of Directors has plenty of time to create a search committee, review a broad range of applicants and choose the best candidate to move the Playhouse forward," Stern explained.

Baker's Plays Releases New Titles Print E-mail

NEW YORK-Baker's Plays has released seven new plays, including the latest in their Dramatic Debuts series, which publishes the works of high school students. Additionally, they've opened submissions for the next volume. Starting Sept. 1, high school students can submit their original works to Baker's Plays for inclusion in the next edition of the Dramatic Debuts series. Deadline for submission is January 31, 2011. The new titles from Baker's Plays are: Candide, by Scott Hunter; Business as Usual, by Jean Battlo; Mashed Potatoes and Davey, by Megan Orr; Harriet & Walt, book and lyrics by Jennifer Kirkeby, music by Shirley Mier, based on the book by Nancy Carlson; Boston Theatre Marathon Volume V, by various authors; Dramatic Debuts Volume 2, by various authors; High School for Dummies, by Bradley Hayward. LONDON-Robe will launch a new green initiative "Think of the Future - Consider Nature" at PLASA 2010 to underline its ongoing commitment to developing and producing genuinely cutting-edge, innovative and energy saving products. Robe estimates that by using their latest products the booth lightshow will consume 30% less power than before. They also promise to launch no less than seven environmentally friendly moving light and LED products.

TerraNOVA Names 2010 Groundbreakers Playwrights Print E-mail

NEW YORK-TerraNOVA Collective has named the new members of their Groundbreakers Playwrights Group. Groundbreakers is a five month long program in which playwrights work on a specific script with intent to create a completed draft. Over the five months, the playwrights each bring in their scripts for three table readings with professional actors, receiving feedback from other Groundbreakers members and special guests, along with the artistic staff of terraNOVA Collective. Halley Feiffer, Lauren Feldman, Andrew Kramer, Nick Mwaluko, and Leah Nanako Winkler are the five playwrights joining this year's group.

FAIRFIELD, CA-Solano College Theatre and Solano Youth Theatre have been nominated for a total of 83 Arty and Elly awards for the 2009/2010 theatre season. Sponsored by the Fairfield Daily Republic, The Artys celebrate the best of Solano County theatre. For more than 20 years, The Artys have paid tribute to local actors, directors, technicians and the theatrical shows they produce in Solano County. SCT and SYT have been nominated for 66 Artys. Winners will be announced at the Arty Award Ceremony on Sept. 12, 2010 at the Fairfield Center for the Creative Arts.
