LOS ANGELES—In recognition of the fact that female
playwrights are critically underrepresented on stages across the country a
grassroots movement working to ensure fair representation of women playwrights
on LA-area stages, the Los Angeles Female Playwrights Initiative (LA FPI), has
launched a website—lafpi.com—to help bolster their mission to connect with
local organizations already working on behalf of women playwrights and theatre
artists, and to give the issues and efforts increased visibility. In addition
to their website launch, another major effort of the Initiative is the LA FPI
Study, which will compile data about the producing and development trends on
stages in the Greater Los Angeles area from 2000 to 2009. The Study will also
tally the plays of Los Angeles-area female playwrights over the same period.
The study will provide a baseline against which the current and future
accountability of gender issues of Los
Angeles playwrights may be considered.

 | | Ken Golding (MD Delstar), Louise Sheffield (Marketing Manager Stage Technologies), Mark Ager (MD Stage Technologies) with the ABTT award for Best Engineering Product 2010 | LONDON—At the recent ABTT Theatre Show awards, the split
pulley, the newest innovation from the Stage Technologies mechanical design
team, took the prize for “Best Engineering Product 2010.” The split pulley is a
simple mechanism designed to make performer flying, specifically at an angle
out over the audience, easier and neater than ever before. Steel wire rope is
fed into the pulley as normal, but the secret is in the carefully-engineered
pulley sheave. The sheave is spilt in two and an electrical signal causes the
two halves to move apart on demand, enabling the rope to drop through.
