IATSE Defends Fest Strike PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jacob Coakley
Mar 11, 2010

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ON—IATSE has released a statement in response to the Shaw’s Fest lockout and the union’s subsequent strike. The IA’s statement said the sticking point in the contract was “the Festival’s desire to have the ability to replace, in whole or in part, union employees with others who would work under a contract service” and Local 461 President Doug Ledingham criticized the Fest’s “misleading” statements about its position that there would be no loss of jobs during the contract. According to Ledingham “The actual offer was to suspend any contracting out until after Dec. 31, 2011, after which they would again have the ability to replace these employees at any point.”

BOLOGNA, Italy—The Teatro Comunale di Bologna has some new players on its stage this year: Clay Paky Alpha Washes and Alpha Profiles. Designed in the 17th century by Antonio Galli da Bibbiena, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna was the first opera house to be built with public funds and hired out by the city council. Its bell-shaped auditorium consists of four tiers of boxes with a royal box and gallery. During its history, it has put on works by practically all the major composers, including Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Wagner, Mozart and Donizetti. Around the end of 2009, the lighting department managers / lighting designers Daniele Naldi and Andrea Oliva felt the need for a larger number of lights. Once they received the go-ahead and fixed budget from the Bologna city council, they turned to the major automated light manufacturers.
