Chauvet Professional Holds Fourth Annual Student Lighting Showcase

The historic Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Los Angeles glowed with the latest in lighting technology and new design ideas on April 1 when it hosted the fourth annual Chauvet Professional Student Lighting Showcase. An interactive educational event, the showcase has students from college theater programs collaborate on lighting projects, then have their work evaluated by noted lighting designers.

Meyer Sound Appoints New Distributor for Korea

Meyer Sound has appointed Ingang Audio Co., Ltd. of Seoul as its new principal distributor for most verticals in the fast-growing South Korean market. Ingang Audio will assume primary responsibility for building a stronger network of Meyer Sound dealers and system integrators in Korea, and for connecting customers to Meyer Sound through a more direct and transparent relationship.

The Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers covering New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers, national publications, and other media beyond Broadway, announced today the winners for the 2016–2017 season. The design winners are Mimi Lien's scenic design and Bradley King's lighting design for Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812; Catherine Zuber's costume designs for War Paint; Gareth Owen's sound design for Come From Away; and Aaron Rhyne's projection designs for Anastasia.

Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, adapted for the stage by Lydia R. Diamond, is a powerful coming-of-age story that staged at the Guthrie Theater. Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, with scenic design by Matt Saunders, costume design by Montana Blanco, lighting design by Yi Zhao and sound design by Scott W. Edwards. The fight director was Aaron M. Preusse and the movement director is Leah Nelson. The Bluest Eye is stage managed by Justin Hossle

Rigging system inspections are recommended as a component of theatrical workplace safety programs, but there are currently no industry-accepted guidelines for inspection frequency, who conducts the inspection, how the inspection is conducted, and what should be included in reports. The lack of industry-accepted guidelines exists both for owner-conducted and third-party inspections.

On May 1st, Chris Patton officially joined ETC as the Marketing product manager for architectural luminaires. Patton has been an unofficial part of the ETC family since 2014, when ETC and GDS formed a partnership for the American production and distribution of ArcSystem, BluesSystem, and CueSystem families. As a GDS employee, Patton contracted with ETC to serve as the marketing product manager for GDS by ETC products. In his new role, Patton will continue to oversee these marketing efforts, while also working to bring ETC’s unique fixture technologies into the commercial sector.
