In Memoriam: Harold Prince, 91

Michael Eddy

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of theatrical legend, Harold Prince, who died this morning at 91 years of age after a brief illness, in Reykjavik, Iceland. He is missed and loved by his family – Judy, his wife of 56 years; his daughter, Daisy; his son, Charles; and his grandchildren, Phoebe, Lucy, and Felix. As per his wishes, there will be no funeral but there will be a celebration of his life this fall with the people he loved most, the members of the theatrical community that he was a part of for seven decades.
Requiescat in Pace, Mr. Prince  January 30, 1928 – July 31, 2019

Audio Upgrade for the Performing Arts Center at Arcadia High School

Stage Directions

The Arcadia Performing Arts Center at Arcadia (California) High School was envisioned at a level that many regional and municipal performing arts center venues could only dream of. The 1,150-seat state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center was opened in 2012, and since then, revenue generated from ticket sales and other donations benefit the Performing Arts Center, as well as art education and art programming for the community. What the venue didn’t have, however, was a sound system that matched its artistic, aesthetic and theatrical achievements. Now, it does: as of January, the venue has installed a state-of-the-art sound system from Bose Professional.

LD Mikkel Bedsted on Lighting for the Jack the Ripper Musical

Stage Directions

In lighting Musicalteatret’s Jack the Ripper musical at Copenhagen’s intimate Folketeatret (People’s Theater), lighting designer Mikkel Bedsted faced some major lighting challenges. Bedsted’s main challenge was the venue’s limited weight loading. With the small theater’s fly bars able to support only around 125kg, it became essential that his lighting fixtures were lightweight and compact in size.

LED Upgrade of the Century at The Muny With 700+ CHAUVET Professional Fixtures

Stage Directions

With its hurly-burly mix of saints and sinners, Hot Box dancers and street-smart gamblers, colorful costumes and evocative settings, Guys and Dolls is as captivating today as it was when it debuted on Broadway in 1950. This was plain to see when Frank Loesser’s multi-Tony Award winning musical kicked off the 2019 season at the St. Louis Municipal Opera Theatre (“The Muny”) on June 10. Part of the allure, was no doubt due to the timeless quality of this sweet but sassy tale of New York’s bygone underworld, but also enchanting the audience was something decidedly more modern: the theatre’s new state-of-the-art LED lighting system that features over 700 CHAUVET Professional fixtures supplied and installed by Bandit Lites.
