Winston-Salem's Reynolds Auditorium Upgrades its Wireless Microphone System

Reynolds Auditorium, in Winston-Salem, NC, has played host to well-regarded touring acts, from the Moscow Ballet to Sweet Honey in the Rock to the National Black Theater Festival. All the while, located on the campus of an area high school, community-centered productions are also a significant part of its oeuvre. These include everything from high school theater productions to a cappella performances. When it came time to upgrade Reynolds Auditorium’s wireless microphone capabilities, manager Liz May saw an opportunity to better accommodate performers of every level.

For those who weren't able to attend the USITT 2018 Conference and Stage Expo in Fort Lauderdale, or would like to hear it again, here's a video of Wendall K. Harrington's keynote speech. Harrington, a pioneer of projection design and head of the MFA program in Projection Design at the Yale School of Drama was the keynote speaker for the 2018 Conference & Stage Expo. Harrington’s career has embraced diverse disciplines including theatre, publishing, and multi-image/video design and production. She is well known for her work in projection design and has been the recipient of numerous theatrical awards, including the Drama Desk Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, the American Theatre Wing Award, the TCI Award for Technical Achievement, the Obie Award for Sustained Excellence of Projections, and was a USITT Distinguished Achievement Award winner in 2015. {youtube}v=IuK2N0PfOco{/youtube}

Queensland's Empire Theatres Upgrades its Cyc Lighting

Ben Hunt, the Head of Lighting at the Empire Theatres, Toowoomba, in Queensland's, Australia knew that he needed to find a more economical way to light his large 46-feet x 30-feet cyclorama. His stock of tungsten conventional cyc lights drew a lot of power as well as needed a range of consumables like lamps and color filters to maintain a well-lit cyc.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, announces the appointment of Gordon Lane as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Lane joins TCG after spending the last 13 years at Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, a not-for-profit organization that facilitates the economic development of all communities in Upper Manhattan through job creation, strategic investments, and small business assistance. VER announced that, as part of a comprehensive transaction supported by its second lien lenders, including funds managed by GSO Capital Partners, it has entered into an agreement to merge with an entity controlled by Production Resource Group LLC ("PRG"). To facilitate the implementation of this pre-negotiated transaction, VER filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware on April 5, 2018. These filings only affect the Company's North American operations.
