Center Theatre Group invites representatives from the Southern California higher education community to attend the free Workforce Readiness Symposium on Saturday, September 22, at East Los Angeles College from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Workforce Symposium is a daylong event for members of the higher education community who work with students studying theater to connect with colleagues, learn more about hiring challenges and needs in the field and develop a collaborative framework for how best to prepare theater students to go from college to working in their desired career pathway.

In Memoriam: Nicholas Cernovitch, Dance Lighting Designer

Stage Directions

Nicholas Cernovitch, an early lighting designer, mainly for dance, died at the age of 88 on August 28, 2018 in Montreal, Canada. Cernovitch was a influence on many lighting designers and theater artists over his long career and his designs can still be seen today, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Revelations and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens' The Nutcracker. Over his career, Cernovitch was a mentor to many lighting designers including Maxine Glorsky, Tony Tucci, and many others. There will be no service as per his wishes. Below is a biography of his career from his daughter. Special thanks to Stage Manager/Lighting Designer, Maxine Glorsky for sharing this information.
