In Memoriam: Actor Douglas Rain, Stratford Festival Pioneer

The Stratford Festival lost one of its pioneers on November 11th. Douglas Rain died of natural causes at the age of 90 at St. Marys Memorial Hospital, just outside of Stratford, Ontario, the city in which he established his career, becoming one of the world’s great classical actors.

LD Ryan Joseph Stafford Lights Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Stage Directions

Based on the Ian Fleming novel of the same name and the 1968 musical film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the theatrical musical version still centers around the main protagonist – the flying red and gold car – that has succeeded in ensuring the story’s continuing longevity. Tasked with providing supporting visuals for a recent theatrical run of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Bournemouth Pavilion theatre in the UK was LD Ryan Joseph Stafford, who specified a number of CHAUVET Professional Ovation E-910FC and Maverick MK2 Spot fixtures in support of his lighting concept, which sought to translate the magic of the film to the stage.

Long Wharf Theatre Names Jacob G. Padron Artistic Director

Jacob G. Padrón, 38, has been named the new Artistic Director of Long Wharf Theatre and will begin his role February 1, 2019.  “Long Wharf Theatre is one of the most important companies in the American theatre. I am overjoyed to join the board, staff, and New Haven community as we embark on new journey and aim to build a boundary breaking future together,” Padrón said.

Zurich Opera House Projects 4K Content onto 14 Screens for The Coronation of Poppaea

The Zurich Opera House recently added Christie® technology with the addition of Christie Terra to complement the Christie Boxer 4K30 projectors and Christie Pandoras Box already in use. Now, the Christie infrastructure is taking the onstage production of L’incoronazione di Poppea (The Coronation of Poppaea) to new heights thanks to Christie Terra’s ability to switch, scale and extend signals of 4K video content. Garsington Opera Chooses Moving Lights for its Operas

Founded in 1989, the annual Garsington Opera Festival takes place over seven weeks in June and July at the Wormsley Estate, home of the Getty family, amid the beautiful natural setting of the Buckinghamshire countryside.
