The Brolga Theatre in Australia adds Automated Wash Lights

Michael Eddy

The Brolga Theatre in Queensland’s Maryborough in Australia is a typical regional venue—a 900-seat proscenium arch theatre hosts a range of performances—an international ballet troupe one night, Jimmy Barnes the next, and a local dance school the day after. Though the venue is just 17 years old, changes in technology mean replacement lamps are no longer available for their wash lights, leading the staff to assess how to upgrade for the future. They chose to add automated LED luminaires as their wash lights.

Declan Randall Lights Scuttlers at RADA

Michael Eddy

The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) staged the London premiere of Scuttlers in its city center George Bernard Shaw Theatre (GBS) with a lighting design by Declan Randall, a South African theatre lighting specialist living in the UK. Scuttlers, directed by Hannah Eidinow, is an intense drama about the struggles and power politics of 19th century Manchester street gangs set against a steaming, grinding industrial revolution backdrop bringing massive social change and great uncertainty. The work was written by Rona Munro in response to the UK’s unsettling spate of urban riots in 2011.
