SCENERY Bags celebrates its one year anniversary

We wish a very Happy Birthday to SCENERY Bags, who one year ago hit “Publish” on its website. In July 2017, Jennifer Kahn, a stage manager, launched SCENERY, an eco-conscious company that makes zippered bags from retired theater backdrops.

Some of the kids taking part in the TDF Intro to Theatre program, which is supported by SCENERYA portion of proceeds from each bag goes to support the work of the Theatre Development Fund’s (TDF) Intro to Theatre Program, which provides middle and high school students with a meaningful introduction to live theater.

To date SCENERY has:

  • Reclaimed 8,800 pounds of material
  • Taken 329 TDF kids to see a Broadway show
  • Produced bags from 18 shows that now live on in a new way

In the April 2018 edition of Stage Directions magazine, Lisa Mulcahy spoke with Kahn about SCENERY. You can read Mulcahy’s story, It’s in the Bag, here
