The Gateway Program provides professional mentoring to students and early-career professionals from underrepresented populations involved in theatre production. Along with receiving conference registration, travel, housing support and being paired with a mentor, the twelve Gateway mentees take part in special receptions and sessions on diversity and inclusion in the production industry.

USITT’s Gateway Program is seek applications from which to select 12 new mentees into the family. This selective mentorship opportunity provides individuals in underrepresented populations in the live entertainment industry with one-on-one mentoring from professionals with similar backgrounds and career paths. By establishing these personal connections, the program aims to maximize each mentee’s experience and break barriers so that participants can flourish.

“The inclusivity that theatre allows is unlike any other art form,” said 2017 Gateway mentor Josafath Reynoso. “I think that’s what the Gateway Program is about. Emphasizing that need for different voices and opinion that bring new and diverse work beyond whatever labels and credentials you’re going to apply to them.”

Since launching in 2014 with only three mentees, the Gateway Program has quadrupled in size and diversity, creating a robust environment for networking. Become a part of the Gateway family and grow your network by applying or securing a nominator.
