ACT Begins Search for New Managing Director

by Jacob Coakley
SEATTLE — ACT – A Contemporary Theatre has begun a search for a managing director for the 42-year-old regional theatre. Jolanne Stanton, currently serving as MD, is leaving after a few months on the job.

Misha Berson in the Seattle Times reported that “The March 2007 hiring of Stanton, a nonprofit consultant who has served on ACT's board of directors, was a surprise to many because she had not run a theater before.” The Board of Trustees has appointed a search committee that includes trustees Kristin Olson (search committee chair); Brad Fowler; Robert Howie; John Jacobsen; and Chuck Sitkin, and ACT staff Kurt Beattie (Artistic Director) and Joan Toggenburger (Producing Director). Also on the committee are Peter Donnelly (former President and CEO, ArtsFund) and Marilyn Sheldon (Managing Director, 5th Avenue Musical Theatre).  Susan Trapnell, (former Managing Director and now Executive Director of Endowment Fundraising) will serve as an advisor to the search committee.

“We are excited about casting a wide net to find the best candidates to partner with Kurt Beattie.  We want to continue building ACT into one of the finest regional theatres in the country,” said search committee chair Olson. “Kurt’s vision for the theatre and our community is extraordinary and we’re committed to finding his next partner.”

Application information is available online at acttheatre.org; deadline for applications is July 31, 2007.
