AACT Offers Three Conferences in August

The AACT will hold conferences in technical theatre, artistic direction and educational direction.The American Association of Community Theatre (AACT) offers three educational conferences this summer to help theatre personnel sharpen their skills and help advance their theatres. First, they will hold a Technical Theatre Conference at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre in Grand Rapids, Michigan August 8-10. This hands-on “Techie Boot Camp” will focus on three core areas of technical theatre: sound, lighting, and scenic design. Additionally, they will host an Artistic Directors Conference and an Education Directors Conference at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma August 22-23. The Artistic Directors Conference will address topics drawn from every aspect of producing theatre and providing artistic direction and is meant for anyone who is responsible for the overall artistic direction of their theatre. The Education Directors Conference will address topics drawn from every aspect of conducting educational programs, and give participants skills to better manage education issues. These two conferences, hosted by Theatre Tulsa, are being held simultaneously so participants from the same, or nearby theatres can share transportation and housing costs.

2014 Summer Educational Theatre Conferences

The American Association of Community Theatre (AACT) is offering educational opportunities to assist individuals and theatres produce high quality theatre.

A Technical Theatre Conference will be held at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre in Grand Rapids, Michigan August 8-10. This hands-on “Techie Boot Camp” will focus on three core areas of technical theatre: sound, lighting, and scenic design. Participants will experience the magical world of technical theatre; learn new techniques; find resources, materials, and suppliers; and be provided with a nationwide network of fellow theatre techies. Techies of all levels of experience will benefit. No technical training is required. Workshops begin Friday August 8 at 6:30 pm and conclude at noon on Sunday August 10. Hotel and airline discounts are available.

An Artistic Directors Conference and an Education Directors Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma August 22-23. The Artistic Directors Conference will address topics drawn from every aspect of producing theatre and providing artistic direction including choosing a season, selecting directors, recruiting actors, solving technical problems and examining long-range planning. The conference is for anyone, whatever his or her title, who is responsible for the overall artistic direction of their theatre. The Education Directors Conference will address topics drawn from every aspect of conducting educational programs, and give participants skills to better manage education issues. The conference is for anyone, whatever his or her title, who is responsible for their theatre’s education programs. These two conferences, hosted by Theatre Tulsa, are being held simultaneously so participants from the same, or nearby theatres can share transportation and housing costs. Workshops begin Friday August 22 at 1:30 pm and conclude Saturday August 23 at 5:30 pm. Hotel and airline discounts are available.
