Barrel of Monkeys Appoints New Program Director

CHICAGO – Barrel of Monkeys has hired Elizabeth Levy, a BOM company member since 2004, as the company's program director starting August 1, 2008. Levy has worked as Steppenwolf's education coordinator for the last three years, and brings a wealth of knowledge about working with schools and educational programs. 

The program director coordinates and ensures excellence in all of BOM's educational programs, as liaison to all school principals and administrators, as well as communities in schools of Chicago and all prospective school and park district partners.  She will be responsible for curricular review and development, and running BOM's professional development programs in Chicago public schools and park districts. She will serve as one of three lead teaching artists and will perform in both public and school shows.
Prior to joining Barrel of Monkeys, Levy was a volunteer teacher and then subsequently taught in BOM's first after-school program at Burnham Anthony school.  She graduated from The University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature.  While at U of C, she ran several drama programs in neighborhood schools in Hyde Park. Since graduating, Levy has acted with several Chicago theater companies, including Steppenwolf, House, Collaboraction, and Dog and Pony.  As education coordinator at Steppenwolf, she organized school visits to the theater, served as liaison between a core group of teaching artists and classroom teachers, generated material for study guides and organized and recruited for professional development workshops.
