Craig Slaight Retires from American Conservatory Theater

SAN FRANCISCO—Craig Slaight, director of American Conservatory Theater’s Young Conservatory will retire after 29 years at A.C.T. In 1988, Slaight assumed the leadership of the Young Conservatory. During his time at A.C.T., Slaight has taught in all of the Conservatory programs, served as a resident director on the mainstage and is a member of the senior team of the company.

BOSTON — Available Light expanded their Boston studio by hiring Po-Yang Sung. Po-Yang is a Taiwanese native fresh from The University of Texas at Austin, where he received his MFA in Lighting Design. In school, he lit a variety of performance styles ranging from drama to dance to musical comedy. Prior to joining Available Light, Po-Yang served as Resident Lighting Designer at Michigan’s Thunder Bay Theatre Company.

Paulette Haupt Steps Down as AD of Eugene O’Neill National Music Theater Conference

WATERFORD, CT— Paulette Haupt, founding Artistic Director of the National Music Theater Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center will step down following the 2017 season, after 40 years leading the program. The program began in 1978 after George C. White, founder of the O’Neill, invited Ms. Haupt to launch a new development program for musical theatre, in a similar mold to the O’Neill’s National Playwrights Conference. The O’Neill will launch a national search for the next Artistic Director of the National Music Theater Conference – one of the O’Neill’s six Artistic Directors – in the coming weeks.
