Applications Being Accepted for Directors Lab West 2017

LOS ANGELES, CA—The Directors Lab West has announced that their 18th annual Lab will be held Saturday, May 20 through Saturday, May 27, 2017. The eight-day long intensive lab brings together dedicated emerging and mid-career theatre directors and choreographers with master artists, enabling them to inspire each other to create the future of the American Theatre. Applications are now being accepted with the deadline for submissions, Friday, March 3, 2017 at 5pm PST.

ST. LOUIS, MO—For a student-designed and produced production of Macbeth at Webster University, directed by Bruce Longworth, LD Josh Murphy's lighting rig included four Claypaky Scenius moving head spotlights. To realize his design Murphy wanted to use units not in the school's inventory so spoke with Seth Jackson, head Webster's concert design program and assistant professor of theatrical design, who called A.C.T Lighting, exclusive distributor of Claypaky fixtures, to get some lights.

HSL Supports UK's Panto Season

BLACKBURN, UK - The lighting, rigging, and visuals rental company, HSL, supported a busy 2016-17 pantomime season for producer Qdos. Supplying lights, LED fixtures, and rigging for 20 different productions with a gear list that included nearly 2,000 automated lights, 500+ conventional fixtures, 100+ kilometers of cable, almost 2,000 custom gobos, and one Kinesys automation system.

Chichester Festival Theatre Invests in MDG

CHICHESTER, ENGLAND—The UK’s Chichester Festival Theatre invested in two MDG ATMe haze generators and two MDG theFAN digital units, supplied by creative and technical solutions specialists, White Light. The two ATMe units are installed in Festival Theatre where they have been busy since day one. The 2016 season saw lighting designer Paule Constable employ them on the critically-acclaimed production of Half A Sixpence, while they were also used to great effect on the RSC double bill Much Ado About Nothing and Love’s Labour’s Lost lit by Oliver Fenwick, An Enemy of the People lit by Mark Henderson, and Ross lit by Paul Pyant – all of which featured haze heavily.

WESTPORT, CT—As part of its commitment to new plays and musicals, Westport Country Playhouse will develop four new plays this January and February as part of their New Works Initiative. The works are: The Vendler Television Playhouse by Susan Rice; Thousand Pines by Matthew Greene; The Biggest Valley by A. Zell Williams; and The Forgotten Woman, by Jonathan Tolins.

Deena Rosenberg Harburg Takes Helm of Yip Harburg Foundation

NEW YORK—Ernie Harburg, son of the lyricist E.Y. "Yip" Harburg, stepped down as president of the Yip Harburg Foundation and was succeeded by Yip's daughter-in-law, Deena Rosenberg Harburg, formerly the foundation's Artistic Director.  Deena is Founder and Chairperson Emeritus of the NYU Tisch Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program and author of "Fascinating Rhythm: The Collaboration of George and Ira Gershwin" and "The Music Makers."
