The Old Globe in San Diego received a $5 million gift from Dr. Andrew Viterbi, which will create The Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Fund. This Fund, which supports the theatre’s artistic and arts engagement programs, will name the Globe’s artistic leadership position. Dr. Andrew Viterbi created The Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Fund in memory of his beloved wife, who passed away in 2015 and was a longtime supporter of the arts.

Theatre Development Fund and The Broadway League recently launched Theatre Access NYC, a new website to help theatregoers with physical disabilities or autism and other sensory sensitivities find Broadway shows with the particular type of accessibility service they require. The goal of the website is to provide all theatregoers who want to experience Broadway shows an easy-to-navigate place where they can find extensive information about services in one location.

Writers and journalists accepted to the program will undergo course of study to help them gain insights into all sides of arts journalism and specialist areas of the arts in an increasingly competitive and fast-paced industry.

Williamstown Theatre Festival Names Play Award-Winners

Hannah and the Dread Gazebo by Jiehae Park won the 2016 L. Arnold Weissberger New Play Award from the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Jiehae will also receive The Jay Harris Commission to write a new play, a prize worth $10,000. Additionally, the Festival announced the three recipients of the 2016 New Play Commissioning Program and their 2016 Playwright-in-Residence.

Arena Stage Set to Celebrate 25 Years of Allen Lee Hughes Fellowship Program

The Arena Stage will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Allen Lee Hughes Fellowship program with a two-day event featuring more than 100 former interns. The Allen Lee Hughes Fellowship started in 1990 with a specific focus to cultivate the next generation of theatre professionals of color. The program expanded in 2009 to include young theatre professionals of all backgrounds.

2016 Jonathan Larson Grant Recipients Named

The American Theatre Wing named four Jonathan Larson Grant recipients for 2016. Each of the winners will receive $10,000 to support their work on a new musical. New for this year, the winners will also receive Saw Island Foundation Recording Grants to help arrange for the production of new demo recordings to more fully represent the musical theatre writer’s vision.
