Fun Home Becomes First Broadway Show to Participate in Spotify Sessions

Fun Home, the 2015 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, participated in a Spotify Session. Recorded in front of a live audience, the session includes new arrangements of songs from the show performed by cast members, as well as interviews with Jeanine Tesori (Score), Lisa Kron (Book and Lyrics), and Alison Bechdel herself, who wrote the graphic novel the musical is based on.

The American Alliance for Theatre & Education and the Educational Theatre Association tapped Kelli O’Hara as spokesperson for their Theatre in Our Schools campaign this March. The campaign aims to promote the benefits of teaching theatre in schools, including the development of creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication, key skills cited as necessary for students to succeed. 12 Off-Broadway Theatres Earn Seal of Approval from LPTW

The League of Professional Theatre Women awarded 12 Off-Broadway theatres with their new “Seal of Approval.” LPTW’s Seal of Approval “honors leaders in the theatre community who have demonstrated commitment to gender parity in their hiring practices.” There are two types of seals: Gold and Silver. The LPTW Gold Seal is awarded to theatres in which 50% of playwrights or 50% of directors (or both) hired in the last 5 seasons were women. The LPTW Silver Seal is awarded to theatres in which 50% of playwrights or 50% of directors (or both) hired in the most recent season were women.

Writers Theatre Opens New Theatre Center

Writers Theatre opened their new theatre center last weekend. Designed by Studio Gang Architects the new home features two intimate performance spaces, patron and artist amenities along with rehearsal and production spaces. Blair Kamin, writing in the Chicago Tribune calls the space “strong but delicate, fresh without lapsing into an hollow quest for novelty.”
