FST Reaches $1M in Endowment Fund

Florida Studio Theatre’s Schools Endowment Fund reached its $1 million goal, thanks to individual donors and a 2 to 1 match from the Patterson Foundation. The endowment will support the funding of tickets for school matinees at FST productions, FST’s Write a Play program and will also further FST’s work in schools through EdExplore SRQ, reaching underserved students, providing new, dynamic art explorations for each educators’ curriculum needs.

Students Learn and Excel at Utah Shakespeare Festival’s Shakespeare Competition

More than 3,200 students from 110 schools in six states attended Utah Shakespeare Festival’s Shakespeare Competition, a weekend of competition and learning for high school performers and technicians. Awards included scholarships to Southern Utah University, classes at Utah Shakespeare Festival and gift certificates at theatrical supply houses.

Actors Fund Dedicates Housing as Dorothy Ross Friedman Residence

The Actors Fund renamed an affordable housing development that has provided a home for special low-income groups including seniors, working professionals in performing arts and entertainment and people living with HIV/AIDS. The new name, The Dorothy Ross Friedman Residence, dedicates the building to honor of musician, entertainer and philanthropist Dorothy Ross Friedman in thanks for a gift from the Dr. Gerald J. & Dorothy R. Friedman Foundation. The gift will allow the building to upgrade its infrastructure, including on-site medical services available to all residents and to those who work in performing arts and entertainment.

MacArthur Foundation Recognizes Four Theatrical Artists

The MacArthur Foundation has announced their 2015 class of Fellows, giving 24 “exceptionally creative” individuals a no-strings-attached stipend of $625,000 in recognition of their accomplishments and in support of accomplishments to come. Among fellows in other fields like economics and architecture, the Foundation recognized four performing artists: Mimi Lien, Michelle Dorrance, Basil Twist, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
