Joshua Curlett, President of Sound Productions, has committed over $50,000 in equipment, training, and scholarships to the arts through Dallas Summer Musicals’ High School Musical Theatre Awards program over a five-year period. This includes establishing the first ever Theater Design and Technology scholarship, which was presented to Tracy Jordan, director of the program, and the scholarship’s recipient at the awards ceremony on May 17.

Joshua Curlett, president of Sound ProductionsThe High School Musical Theatre Awards program is the second largest of its kind nationally, recognizing the achievements of North Texas and Oklahoma students and their high schools. “I absolutely love giving to our community in this way. A key aspect of Sound Productions’ mission is sharing expertise and cultivating knowledge,” says Curlett. “Creating this program fits right in line with our passion for our industry and we couldn’t be prouder to partner with Tracy Jordan.”

Later this year, Sound Productions, in partnership with Dallas Summer Musicals, will create and host an annual workshop for theatre tech students called Theatre Training 101. The event is available to high schools in the DFW area.

Sound Productions’ goal is to equip the next generation of theatre and music tech leaders through hands-on training and knowledge shared from professionals throughout the community. The workshop creates many insight-filled moments for DFW’s youth, furthering their understanding of the art and solidifying the path of future theater professionals and lovers.

“We appreciate Sound Productions’ support for DSM & HSMTA more than words can say. The opportunities they are helping to create for these young students are tremendous,” says Jordan.
