Backstage Video: Working in Theatre: Stage Manager, Ross Jackson

by Stage Directions

Here’s a video from the Center Theatre Group’s Working in Theatre series. This edition is on the Stage Manager and features an interview with Stage Directions magazine’s Contributing Writer and Illuminations blogger, Ross Jackson.

Jackson, who got his start as a stage management intern for Wicked on Broadway, explains what it takes to be the person in the booth at every performance, calling the cues, and maintaining the artistic integrity of the show.

The Center Theatre Group filmed this interview with Jackson during his Geffen Playhouse run of The Niceties “to help spread the word of the possibilities and wonder that come with a career in stage management,” said Jackson in a post on Facebook. “What a special and cherished opportunity to share my story and love for the craft. Huge thank you to Camille Schenkkan because if it weren’t for her, this video and surely my career wouldn’t be what it is today.”

Jackson encourages you to “check out the video and share it with anyone you know that might be interested in this career path. I’m open to all questions as well, just shoot me a message whether we’ve met already or not. Nothing’s worth having if it can’t be shared. Thanks also to Jordan Boatman, Lisa Lou Banes, Leia Crawford, Alex Hawthorn, and many others for allowing us to film while they worked!”
