Actors Theatre of Louisville will receive the 2013 Kentucky Governor’s Awards in the Arts National Award. Given annually by the Kentucky Arts Council, the awards celebrate Kentucky organizations that make “extraordinary and significant contriubtions to the arts.” Actors Theatre of Louisville was honored for their 50 years of providing “quality arts experiences to all ages across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

 

 

 

ACTORS THEATRE OF LOUISVILLE RECEIVES KENTUCKY GOVERNOR’S AWARDS IN THE ARTS NATIONAL AWARD

Louisville, KY – Artistic Director, Les Waters and Managing Director, Jennifer Bielstein are proud to announce that Actors Theatre of Louisville, the State Theater of Kentucky, is to receive the 2013 Kentucky Governor’s Awards in the Arts National Award. The Governor’s Awards in the Arts are awarded annually by the Kentucky Arts Council and celebrate Kentuckians and Kentucky organizations that have made extraordinary and significant contributions to the arts.  A public ceremony honoring the recipients will be held on October 29, 2013 at the Capitol in Frankfort.

For 50 years Actors Theatre has been a cornerstone arts institution in the Louisville Metro area and was named the State Theatre of Kentucky in 1974. Through a myriad of programming streams, Actors Theatre provides quality arts experiences to all ages across the Commonwealth of Kentucky including almost 500 annual performances, a robust education and outreach program delivering almost 30,000 arts experiences each year to students across the region.

Jennifer Bielstein said, “As Actors Theatre marks its 50th Anniversary and 40th year as the State Theatre of Kentucky, this award is tremendously timely. We are proud to serve the needs of the citizens of the Commonwealth and represent this State as a leader in the national theatre field. ”

Actors Theatre’s 50th Anniversary Season line-up includes: Noises Off , Fifth Third Bank's Dracula, The Mountaintop, Tom Jones, Fifth Third Bank’s A Christmas Carol, The Pirates of Penzance and Our Town, plus nine world premieres during the Humana Festival of New American Plays. In addition, the theatre will host several community celebration events, including a season kick-off block party for the whole family on August 17, an elegant Gala in September honoring those who made Actors Theatre what it is today, and an end of year Bash during the Humana Festival uniting members of the theatre field and Actors Theatre alumns from around the world.
