SDC Announces Results of Board Elections

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Society held their board elections on Nov. 17, and elected members to the board and solidified roles on the board. New members include Anne Kauffman and Robert O’Hara as members at large.


On November 17, at the Annual Membership Meeting in New York City, SDC announced the results of the 2014 Executive Board Elections. Newly elected to serve at-large are directors Anne Kauffman and Robert O’Hara. Re-elected incumbents include Sheldon Epps, Mark Lamos, Seret Scott, and Chay Yew, as well as officers Susan H. Schulman, President, John Rando, Executive Vice President, and Ethan McSweeny, Treasurer. Incumbent director Robert Moss was re-elected as the Northeast Regional Representative, and director/choreographer Casey Stangl was elected as the new Southwest Regional Representative.

The 2014 Nominating Committee was chaired by Executive Board Member Christopher Ashley. The 2014 Northeast Regional Nominating Committee and the 2014 Southwest Nominating Committee were chaired by Executive Board Members Wendy C. Goldberg and Larry Carpenter respectively. 

Directors Leigh Silverman and Oz Scott were re-elected to serve as Vice President and Secretary, respectively.

“SDC is a vital, thriving organization undergoing terrific, important changes, and I am honored to continue my Vice-Presidency,” said Ms. Silverman. Her Broadway credits include: Violet (Tony nom.), Chinglish, and Well.  Off-Broadway include: American Hero (2ST), Kung Fu (Signature Theatre), The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence (Playwrights Horizons), The Call (Playwrights Horizons), The Madrid (MTC), Golden Child (Signature Theatre), No Place to Go (Public Theater, Two River Theatre), In the Wake (Center Theatre Group/Berkeley Repertory Theatre and The Public Theater, Obie Award, Lortel nom.), Go Back to Where You Are (Playwrights Horizons, Obie Award), From Up Here (MTC, Drama Desk nomination), Yellow Face (Center Theatre Group/The Public Theater), Coraline (MCC/True Love), Blue Door (Playwrights Horizons), Well (The Public Theater, Huntington Theatre, ACT), Danny and the Deep Blue Sea (Second Stage Theatre).  Recent regional: American Hero (WTF), Chinglish (Goodman Theater, Jeff nom., West Coast/Hong Kong tour). 

Mr. Scott remarked, “This is an exciting time for SDC and I am thrilled to continue my participation as Secretary.  Over the past few years, SDC has prioritized regional representation, and as the first officer to be elected from outside of the New York City area, I am proud to take on the responsibility of letting all know that a Member outside of New York can effectively serve as an officer.”  Mr. Scott’s credits span television, feature films, stage productions, and made-for-TV movies. His theater directorial credits include: The Ballad of Emmett Till (Goodman Theatre) and Resurrection (Arena Stage, Hartford Stage, Philadelphia Theatre Company). Oz has been nominated for a DGA award, and he has been the recipient of an NAACP Image Award, Drama Desk Award, Village Voice OBIE Awards for Off-Broadway, Genesis Award, and the Nancy Susan Reynolds Award.
