It is a strange and trying time for all of us in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We certainly understand times are tough for you, as they are for us. We have been proud to bring Stage Directions for free all these many years and we will continue to provide you with complimentary subscriptions during the pandemic. However, we would like to ask in these difficult times that you consider a small donation to help support our efforts here at Stage Directions as we work to keep our industry up to date by providing you with a continuous stream of current and vital information when it is needed, today more than ever, to keep us all in the theater community connected.
Every year, May 8 serves as a day of celebration for the Shure SM58® Dynamic Vocal Microphone. This year, Shure celebrated #SM58Day with a livestream event featuring Henry Rollins, custom giveaways, and regional online events & contests all week long. The livestream celebration took place live on Friday, May 8. Here’s the video replay of Shure’s SM58 Day:
The SM line was first developed in the 1960s and was aimed at the TV studio market. Rock-and-roll sound engineers discovered the microphone in the late sixties, and it soon became the most famous microphone in the world for onstage performance. From the rigors of touring, to attempting different ways of destroying them, the SM58 can take a beating – it’s no wonder why musicians trust this legendary microphone all over the world.
This year, to celebrate SM58 Day, you’re invited to join Shure as we learn all about the iconic microphone, its history, and the engineering story behind the SM58.
Shure will host a free livestream event on its YouTube page with special guests Henry Rollins of Black Flag and the Rollins Band as well as Jon Loeser and Stuart Delk, sound engineers for Rascal Flatts). Shure will share the stories, the history, and the engineering behind the iconic SM58 microphone. There will also be contests, drawings, and regional events all week long!
This is event is designed for anyone and everyone who has an appreciation for the most popular microphone in the world! Shure looks forward to celebrating the history, inspiration, and achievements of the SM58.
Leading up to the online event, U.S. fans are welcome to enter the custom SM58 giveaway, partake in regional online engagements/performances, and participate in various social media giveaways.
