In connection with 2020 as the Year of the Stage Manager, a new study of American stage managers has launched. The SM2030 Project is a ten-year research project designed to better understand how stage managers begin their careers and their initial challenges. It is a longitudinal study that will follow a group of individuals from the same starting point: graduation from college. Participants will complete short surveys at the 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 year marks in their careers.
Students who are graduating from an American college or university with an undergraduate degree in Spring or Summer 2020 and intending to pursue a career in stage management are invited to participate in this study. Each survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
We make assumptions about starting a career in stage management today based on previous generations’ experiences. The SM2030 Project will help us see the similarities and differences in the newest generation of stage managers.
