It is a strange and trying time for all of us in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We certainly understand times are tough for you, as they are for us. We have been proud to bring Stage Directions for free all these many years and we will continue to provide you with complimentary subscriptions during the pandemic. However, we would like to ask in these difficult times that you consider a small donation to help support our efforts here at Stage Directions as we work to keep our industry up to date by providing you with a continuous stream of current and vital information when it is needed, today more than ever, to keep us all in the theater community connected.
SARASOTA, FL — Asolo Repertory Theatre and the Verizon Foundation are collaborating on a project called Beyond the Book. This is the first partnership between the two. Beyond the Book has been developed to promote literacy and encourage reading through events and promotion.
In October of 2006, Asolo Rep, in cooperation with several local organizations, agencies, libraries and bookstores launched this project meant to inspire reading, literacy and community connection on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The 2007 selection is Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, which will run in conjunction with the community wide literary project. After reading the book, the community is invited to delve further into its ideas and themes by participating in events happening throughout the area. Events include seeing the stage production, joining a book discussion group, viewing various film adaptations and many others.
Beyond the Book is sponsored by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice, the Verizon Foundation and Asolo Repertory Theatre. Corporate media sponsors are Comcast and The Sarasota Herald-Tribune in addition to various foundations, corporations and individuals.
Pride and Prejudice runs from March 23 to May 6, 2007.
