Goodspeed is offering a Scenic Painting Intensive January 6 – 12, 2020

Goodspeed’s Scenic Painting Intensive is a unique opportunity to receive expert instruction from a team of esteemed scenic artists with extensive experience in live theater, film and television, and special events. Join them January 6 – 12, 2020 for this introductory intensive focused on skills like color mixing, drop layout, and creating textured surfaces.

January 6 – 12, 2020
The aesthetic beauty of our productions testifies to the fact that Goodspeed Musicals benefits from some of the most talented scenic painters in the country. During this week-long introductory intensive, participants will receive expert instruction of a team of esteemed teaching artists, including current and former Goodspeed Staff, as they learn to create textured surfaces using a variety of scenic painting techniques. They will also begin to master scenic painting skills such as cartooning, color mixing, squaring up, drop layout, and wood graining.

The intensive begins the evening of Monday, January 6 and runs daily until Sunday, January 12. Participants should plan to arrive on the Goodspeed campus around 3pm on January 6 and will receive a detailed schedule for each day of the intensive upon acceptance and registration.

The Scenic Painting Intensive takes place on Goodspeed’s campus in East Haddam, CT. Most classes and work sessions will occur in the Stillman Paint Shop, located on Commerce Drive.

2020 Faculty

Diane Fargo has taught at Boston University since 2001. She mentors a Scene Painting Certificate Program at BU, now in its 11th year. Diane has an MFA in Theater Design from Brandeis University. She has worked for many reputable designers on productions for such theaters as The Roundabout, Public Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club, CSC, Playwrights Horizons, The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, Chicago Shakespeare, Ford’s Theater, Arizona Theater Company, Houston Ballet, Alabama Shakespeare, Minnesota Opera, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Circle in the Square. She was Charge Artist for three national tours and provided interior decorative painting renovation of the Skylight Opera Theater. Store and Window Display and Event Decor for such companies as Tiffany and Co., IBM, Exxon Valentino’s, Bellagio, Foxwood and Mohegan Sun Casinos. Diane is responsible for design and fabrication of event scenic elements for SAP CEO Summit at Jazz at Lincoln Center 2017,18,19. Ms. Fargo has taught Set Design and Drafting at SUNY Albany, Scene Painting at Cobalt Studios, Ramapo College, and Brooklyn College.  She has acted as a consultant for Paint Products for Rosco Labs since 1988 and was the Charge Artist at Goodspeed Musicals for 19 years. She is responsible for yearly Scenic Art intensives at Williamstown Theater Festival and Goodspeed Musicals for 6 years running.
