Stage Directions • Industry News • May 22, 2020

It is with great sadness that Stage Directions notes the passing of Darren DeVerna. Though he had been battling an illness this past year he had continued working and his death will have been unexpected by many.

DeVerna was the fourth generation of his family to work in the theater and became a member of IATSE Local 1 in 1977 as a Broadway stagehand. He was well known throughout the Broadway community, as well as the London theater scene, both as the CEO of Global Theater for Production Resource Group LLC (PRG), and as a Producer. He brought his over 40 years’ experience to his work with PRG and his keen eye for a hit show to his work as a theatrical producer on numerous productions, both on Broadway and on London’s West End. His credits as a producer including Diana, Dear Evan HansenBeetlejuice, The Prom, King Kong, Bandstand, Sunday In the Park with GeorgeEscape to MargaritavilleSpongeBob SquarePantsA Night with Janis Joplin, and Significant Other, as well as the London productions of Rock of Ages and An American In Paris. He was also an investor in London’s Charing Cross Theatre as well as a number of Broadway shows and National Tours.

Darren donated his time to a range of groups serving on the boards of the New York Musical Theatre Festival, the former Chairman of Mount Vernon Hospital and the former Vice-Chairman of Sound Shore Medical Center. DeVerna’s deep roots in the New York theater community make his passing one that will be marked sadly by many.
