Join #RedAlertRESTART September 1st and Light it in Red

Stage Directions • Industry News • August 26, 2020

#WeMakeEvents, #RedAlertRESTART, and #ExtendPUA represent a major call to action on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, imploring the U.S. Congress to pass the RESTART Act (S.3814) as quickly as possible, offering economic relief to the Live Events Industry, which has been shuttered since March, 2020, putting millions of people out of work. Additionally, the movement is to support ExtendPUA.org in their efforts towards continuation and extension of the Pandemic Unemployment Act to provide relief to those without work due to COVID-19.

The Live Event Industry in North America hopes to replicate the highly successful #RedAlert event in the UK and Europe, where on a single night hundreds of buildings were illuminated in red to draw attention to the needs of the Live Event Industry’s need for government support. #RedAlertRESTART in North America will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 with an aim to light up red, over 1,500 buildings.

September 1, 2020 is when buildings, structures, and residences will be lit in red from 9:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m. (local time in each market) as the event rolls across North America. The goal to raise public awareness that the Live Events Industry is on Red Alert for its very survival and create congressional pressure to act now.

Michael Strickland put out the following call to action industry-wide to help mobilize this effort:

Friends,

#RedAlertRESTART in North America on September 1, 2020 will be a massive, nationwide endeavor. It will require the cooperation of many firms, venues, municipalities and people. We urge anyone that wishes to become involved to please do so. This is happening very quickly. Teams are being assembled in many major cities to execute this. The bulk of the work will be advance work on the phone and via e-mail. Volunteers are needed to assist at each site. Firms will need to provide equipment as well in many cases.

Anyone that has connection in their home towns with local officials will be invaluable, as the local officials will play a part in this. Those of you venue related are a big part of this as well. Venues and buildings that are currently illuminated with color changing LEDS are very useful as they can quickly and easily change to red. This will require complete integration and cooperation in each area to make this event a complete success. This is a completely inclusive event so please jump in and help!

To participate, email: WeMakeEventsNorthAmerica@gmail.com

The goal in this massive endeavor is to gain both local and national media attention in regards to the fact that Live Events are sitting at zero income and will be until sometime in 2021.

This event is to promote the use of the RESTART Act in the next relief bill and to secured Enhanced Unemployment Insurance for all of those on unemployment.

We are and have been a tremendous force in the movement of small business funding. All of the legislators have told me that the Live Event Industry is far and away the loudest voice in this endeavor. That is because of everyone of you doing what you are doing, on a continuing basis.

We cannot stop now.

I wish to thank everyone of you for what you have done and what you will do. Let us keep up the pressure and achieve our goal of securing the support our industry needs.

Thank you,
Michael T. Strickland , Chair and Founder Bandit Lites
