Play About Woman Killed by Israeli Bulldozer Canceled

The Florida Sun-Sentinel • Industry News • April 2, 2007

BROWARD COUNTY, FL — The controversial play My Name Is Rachel Corrie has been canceled by the board of Plantation’s Mosaic Theatre Company in the face of opposition from some Jewish groups over its seemingly pro-Palestinian stance.

The one-act drama is adapted from the writings of Corrie, a 23-year-old Seattle woman killed by an Israeli bulldozer while protesting the destruction of a home in Gaza.

When the opposition surfaced, Mosaic artistic director Richard Jay Simon, a devout Jew, issued an impassioned plea on the play’s behalf.
