S*P*A*Minar | Props You Can Make at Home with Eric Hart

In this month’s Society of Properties Artisan Managers’ S*P*A*Minar, Eric Hart will show you some tips and techniques to build props cheaply and safely right in your home, with materials you can buy locally. This will be held on Sunday, April 18th at 8:00 p.m. EDT. Hart is a professor of Stage Properties at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, as well as a S*P*A*M member, and author.


With this S*P*A*Minar, they’re also doing their first-ever giveaway! One lucky attendee* will win a copy of Hart’s new book: Prop Building for Beginners: Twenty Props for Stage and Screen.

Hart has been building props and effects for theater, opera, retail display, and other industries since 2003. He has been making props for a number of theaters and others around the country, including: Props Master at Triad Stage, 2013-19; Assistant Props Master at The Public Theater, 2009-11; Props Carpenter at the Santa Fe Opera, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2013; Props Artisan for the Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville, 2006; Built props for Broadway theaters including Ethel Barrymore Theatre, Roundabout Theatre, and Lincoln Center Theatre; Built props for Off-Broadway theaters including Second Stage Theatre, The New Group, NY Theatre Workshop, Red Bull Theatre and Acorn Theatre; and Props and fabrication for Hersheypark, Macy’s Holiday Windows, Sleep No More, Gagosian Gallery, and UNCSA alumna-owned Majestic Scenic

S*P*A*M is requesting pay-what-you-can donations to support the S*P*A*Minar programming. All money collected will be used to offset webinar operation costs with additional funds going to our annual grant program for early career prop people. Registration will remain open until 6:00 p.m. EDT on April 18th and a link to the Zoom S*P*A*Minar session will be sent out to all registered attendees 1 hour before the start of the webinar.

All S*P*A*Minars will be recorded, and a video will be shared the week following the event.
