Stage Directions • Changing RolesTheatre Buzz • July 31, 2020

July 31, 2020—After 22 years of service at Materials for the Arts, today, Harriet Taub is retiring as Executive Director. Under Taub’s leadership, MFTA has collected over 24 million pounds of materials, which have been diverted from the landfill and gone into the hands of thousands of prop artisans, set designers, artists, educators, performers, afterschool providers, and program leaders.

On social media, the staff of the MFTA honored Taub:

Congratulations for 22 years of service, Harriet! We MFTA staff members were so honored to call Harriet our boss. No job was ever too hard or too small for Harriet, and she encouraged each of us to strive for excellence. Harriet’s dedication to art and reuse are unparalleled. She worked tirelessly every day to support the NYC arts and educational communities. We wish you the best on your new journey, Harriet.

In the August 2017 issue of Stage Directions, SD Contributing Writer, Lisa Mulcahy profiled Taub and the work of Materials for the Arts. Art with a (Re)Purpose | A Look at the Work of Sloan Award Winner, Harriet Taub from Materials for the Arts
