It is a strange and trying time for all of us in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We certainly understand times are tough for you, as they are for us. We have been proud to bring Stage Directions for free all these many years and we will continue to provide you with complimentary subscriptions during the pandemic. However, we would like to ask in these difficult times that you consider a small donation to help support our efforts here at Stage Directions as we work to keep our industry up to date by providing you with a continuous stream of current and vital information when it is needed, today more than ever, to keep us all in the theater community connected.
Food on stage is rarely what it appears to be and it’s up to the Prop Department to devise recipes for edible dishes that both look like the food noted in the script and works with the actors’ needs, diets, and preferences, as they need to eat the same thing eight performances a week – twice on Saturday and Sunday. In this behind-the-scenes video from the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, the Rep’s Properties Director Jim Guy demonstrates a non-fish, dairy-free, vegetarian-friendly vegan recipe devised some seasons ago to resemble fried trout fillets for a production that was mounted at the Rep’s Powerhouse Theatre.
Guy is also the president of S*P*A*M, the The Society of Properties Artisan Managers, an association of professional Theatre Prop Managers and Educators. You can find out more about S*P*A*M here: https://propmasters.org/
