  • Caltech Beckman Auditorium Gets Big Sound with Bag End

    Stage Directions | Industry News | July 11, 2007 PASADENA, CA — The sound system of Beckman Auditorium of California Institute of Technology was recently upgraded with a new console, processors, mains, and lines. However, finding subwoofers to fit into the small space available near the stage was a problem. They chose the Bag End compact, 15-inch-high PD18E-AD self-powered INFRA subwoofers, which fit comfortably in the front of the auditorium without interfering with the audience sight lines.  Read More...

    Stage Directions | Industry News | July 5, 2007 LOS ANGELES – For the first time in their history, employees of the Pryo Technics Department of Disneyland (California) have requested union representation and chosen the IATSE as their bargaining unit. The unit is comprised of 30 individuals who perform the fireworks and other special effects work (such as Fantasmic Show) for the Disneyland Park. They will join IATSE Local 44.  Read More...

    Stephen Peithman | Theatre Buzz | July 5, 2007 More than 1200 people attended AACTFest, the national theater festival sponsored by the American Association of Community Theatre, June 18-24, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Hosted by The Metrolina Theatre Association, the event featured keynote speaker Ben Cameron, past executive director of Theatre Communications Group. Organizers were pleased that event registrations were up nearly 30 percent from the previous festival, according to AACT Executive Director Julie Angelo at AACT.  Read More...
  • San Francisco Arts Community Rallies to Save Beloved Theatre

    Stage Directions | Theatre Buzz | June 28, 2007 SAN FRANCISCO — The arts community in San Francisco is banding together to save the city's oldest African American theater company— the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, which is in danger of losing its 19-year-old home on Sutter Street. Hansberry Executive Director Quentin Easter announced that the Academy of Art University, which has leased a portion of the theatre building for student housing, is in the process of buying the building. Academy president Elisa Stephens said that the school wishes to convert the theatre space into a gymnasium for its students and will not renew the Hansberry Theatre’s lease, which expires July 31, 2007.  Read More...

  • ETCs Eos Lighting Control System Wins Prestigious Award

    Stage Directions | Industry News | June 28, 2007 BERLIN, GERMANY — The new ETC Eos lighting control system has won the Showtech 2007 tradeshow's Product Award for Lighting and Projection. Showtech, a European entertainment-technology industry show, takes place in Berlin every other year. This award is the second such honor for the Eos, which took the Product of the Year Award for a debuting product when the desk was introduced last fall at LDI 2006.  Read More...
